How public holidays work
Federal holidays generally close federal offices and affect many banks and markets. States may add their own holidays or observe federal holidays differently. Provider records may include Public, Bank, or Observance types — check each entry’s category and confirmation label.
National holidays
Common nationwide observances in provider data include New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day, among other federal calendar entries for the selected year.
Religious & cultural observances
Some cultural or religious observances may appear as optional or observance types rather than federal public holidays. We do not upgrade an observance to “official public holiday” unless the source supports that classification.
Regional variations
Where provider data includes subdivision codes, holidays may apply only in certain states or territories. National vs regional scope is shown on each holiday row.

United States holiday rows are synchronized mainly from Nager.Date Community API data cached in MySQL, with attribution retained per record.
